Happy Halloween

October 31st, 2007

This is Nika’s very 1st Halloween. We dressed her up as a blue octopus, so cute! Yesterday we took her to Expedia for the Halloween festivities. We got to see some friends and visit briefly. Miss Nika didn’t last too long so it was a quick trip.

Nika_Mommy_Halloween2007Tonight we went to Redmond Town Center for trick or treating. Grandma came with us too. Nika did great! We strolled around collecting treats (for me). Nika had a blast checking out all the kiddies running around in their costumes. Redmond Town Center was a great place to go. Some of the stores passed out coupons (in addition to treats for the kids) for the parents to use at a later date.

Here’s some coupons up for grabs. Email me if you want one and I can email you the coupon code or drop it in the mail to you.

Hiking at Redmond Watershed

October 29th, 2007

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We did a little hiking with Miss Nika yesterday. We took her out in her new Kelty backpack (the Kelty is a great step-up from the bjorn once they outgrow it).

Daddy_Nika_KeltyWe went to the Redmond Watershed. It’s a great place for kids. There are several trails to explore of varying length. All the trails have super easy terrain. The frog loop trail is the easiest with a paved trail (perfect for strollers). Some of the trails have informational markers about the trees, plants, and wildlife.

Strange but true

Check out the 2 headed turtle!

Why do I have a video about a 2 headed turtle?
Our friends came over for dinner last weekend. Their kids were admiring our pet turtles (we have 2 pet turtles and “no” they do not have 2 heads). We got to talking about reptiles. There is a really cool reptile place not too far from where we live and they have a real 2 headed turtle on display. It’s odd, creepy…yet cool. They didn’t believe us that there was such a thing so we looked it up online and found this video. So here’s the proof, 2 headed turtles do exist! I thought the rest of you might be interested too.

If you live in the Seattle area go check out the Reptile Zoo in Monroe. It’s well worth the drive and only costs $4 per person. There are a ton of cool reptiles to check out besides the 2 headed turtle. It’s a fun and educational place to take the kids or just the kids at heart. Our first visit was just Vlad and me. It was a very unique and excellent date!

Shout out to my honey…warning PDA

October 25th, 2007

Ok I have to give a shout out to my hubby, Vlad. I have the best husband ever.

Earlier this week he tells me that I have a surprise present coming and it should be here by end of week. I actually thought he was kidding as I had no idea what or why he would order me something. Sometimes he will joke that he ordered me something but it’s really for him.

About a month ago I had told him about this Juicy Couture scrapbook I found online and how cool it was. I am a BIG JC fan and love the brand. He told me to order it. I explained to him it was way too expensive and that I didn’t need it and left it at that.

Surprise, surprise my present did come today and it was the JC scrapbook set. Yeah! He went and searched it up and ordered it for me. I asked him why I got this fabulous present and he said “why not”? I said it’s not even Christmas or my birthday. He replied with Christmas is too far away. Ha!

Yes, I am spoiled. I am grateful. I am humbled by this gesture. I love my man.

It feels really great when someone does something special for you for no reason, out of the blue. Here’s my challenge to you: acknowledge someone you love with a surprise. These “just because” sentiments are the best ones. They stand out from all those planned holidays and birthdays. Try it, it will make you feel good and the person you surprise!

I {HEART} VLAD

Ok, it’s gets even better. I just had to pause from writing as Vlad came in to bring me a treat (that he made)! He was making his famous ice cream cheesecake desert tonight, which we can’t eat until tomorrow since it has to freeze overnight. He took some of the scraps and made me a little treat for tonight. Geez, I feel so guilty with all these unexpected surprises. I know, I know…I AM SPOILED.

Everyone needs to be spoiled from time to time. Get out there and spoil your loved ones. Don’t they deserve it?

Nika Update: the teething has begun

October 22nd, 2007

Nika is now 6 months and already 2 bottom teeth! I didn’t realize that teeth can sprout so quickly. She’s been a little fussy with the teeth, but doing great!

Today we played with bubbles for the 1st time, so fun. Nika sat in her bebePod (she is working on sitting on her own) while I let the bubbles flow. The bubbles were a great distraction to keep her practicing sitting up.

We also went shopping for her christening dress. The dresses are all so cute. Still working on finalizing the details for her baptism. It’s looking like some time end of November. Stay tuned for more details soon.

Check out this cute photo book of Nika, these are some of my favorite pics from newborn - 5 months. I made this book for Vlad’s grandma (babooshka) for her birthday.

Welcome to MamaSheg

October 19th, 2007

It took just a mere 6 months into motherhood before I was clamoring for a project…a web project of course. The timing is right as Nika is on a good routine schedule.

Here I am blogging. It’s been weird not working on a website. Transitioning from work-life to being a SAHM was tough at first. I feel very fortunate and lucky to be home with Nika. I know a lot of you are working moms. I’ll use this as a place to share tips, good finds, and any mom stuff that might be of interest.

I’ll be posting baby Nika updates too, be sure to let me know about your baby’s milestones.

Check out my Scrapy Stuff page for all you scrapbookers and crafty-types. I’ll be posting lots of good finds, sharing tips, talking about my favorite tools, and just fun crafty stuff.

Thanks for stopping by!
