I took Nika to her very first theater performance a few days ago. We went to the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater located in Snohomish Washington. What a fabulous place this is for kids.
Little Nika was mesmerized by the performance. She bounced up and down on my lap as the performers sang and danced. The kids in the audience were invited to participate on stage as well as encouraged to sing along and dance. The puppets in the show were funny and the stories and songs were catchy and spirited. I love how interactive the performers were with the audience. It’s a very intimate theater experience. After the show the performers and puppets came out to the lobby to meet all the guests. This was a really fun and exciting place to go with Nika. Kids of all ages will enjoy these shows…we’ll definitely be coming here again.
More about the The Thumbnail Theater
Located in a quaint and charming historic building this theater has much to offer. This non-profit organization is dedicated to preserving and ensuring the vitality and sustainable future for the art of musical theater in Snohomish and surrounding communities. Love that!!!
They offer children and adults a creative outlet to experience various levels of musical theater with their peers through acting, singing and dancing. Their classes and performances encourage empathy, appreciation and recognition of their own and each other’s unique gifts and talents. Find out more about upcoming performances and check out the music and acting classes offered.
Here’s a video clip highlighting the founder, Tim Noah’s career. He’s a Emmy winning song writer and entertainer who knows how to make kids smile. Towards the end of the clip you’ll see the Thumbnail Theater and some of the workshops being held.

We’re in the last few months {fingers crossed} of building our new house. All the rooms were recently painted and Nika’s room is a beautiful lilac color. It’s so pretty. I made her this altered letter for her new room. This was a fun project to make. I like how easy it was to create.
To start I traced the letter onto the back of paper and cut out. Next I ran the paper through the Xyron machine for adhesive. I did not do any prep work or sanding to the letter as it stuck on just fine. I used the Basic Grey Precision File Set to tidy up the edges. The ribbon under her name {in the lower left} was put on with a tape runner. I punched all the butterflies. The smallest butterfly was made with a Fiskars pop-up punch. The butterflies and wood flower were adhered with a wet glue. I added some glittery stickers to spell Nika’s name, tied on ribbons, and also added gemstones to the wood flower.
Products used
- Patterned paper {DCWV}
- Wood letter {purchased from Michaels}
- Ribbon {Really Reasonable Ribbon}
- Wood flower {purchased from Joanns}
- Stickers {Portafolia}
- Adhesive {Xyron 900, Ultimate Glue, Scrapbook Adhesives}

Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected
Check out this awesome book I won on the Fisk-A-Teers blog, Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected by Claudine Hellmuth. This is a beautiful how-to collage book with tons of great ideas. Many of these projects utilize scraps and things you already have in your stash. I really like all the techniques in the {Creating Textured Backgrounds} chapter. Great instructions and lots of pictures detailing things like, how to make a crackle background with Elmer’s glue. Other clever ideas using things such as masking tape, tissue paper and even bubble wrap to design beautiful and unique projects. There are some really cool techniques that I’m looking forward to trying. The whole book is just fabulous. I recommend this for any paper crafter that is interested in designing outside of the box. LOVE IT!
Watch a video clip of Claudine on the Martha Stewart show demonstrating how to make poppets{r}. You can get the instructions and pattern download here. Check out more of Claudine’s projects on her blog.
Nika update - 10 months
Nika is just getting over a cold that she’s had for over a week now. Vlad got sick too. I was lucky not to get it. Thank goodness for Airborne–love that stuff! Nika is now 10 months and very active. She is turning out to be a speedy little crawler and currently loves climbing over everything and everyone. She is eager to pull herself up and stand so we are now having to childproof a lot of areas and things around the house.
Nika really enjoys interacting with other kids too. At the grocery store yesterday we sought out 2 other babies. A 7 month old boy and a 10 1/2 month old boy and she flirted with just about everyone who looked at her.
Some of Nika’s new favorite things to do…
- Watching Sesame Street video podcasts on the iPhone
- Still loves playing with her Little Superstar Sing Along Stage
- Dancing with Mommy
- Going to the indoor playground
- Riding in her Cozy Coupe
- Eating Gerber Puffs
- Playing with kitties and looking at her book about kittens
Nika’s 1st birthday is coming up soon. I’ve already started to plan her party, so exciting and amazing how fast that went by. We’re going to do an Elmo theme since she is a HUGE Elmo fan. La la la la…La la la la — yep I know all the words to the Elmo theme song and known to sing it when needed.

After posting the card yesterday I realized I didn’t like it so much. Here is the Valentine Vlad got from me today. I love it and he loves it too.
Toadily fun to make! I started with a piece of 8×8 cardstock and some scraps that were laying around on my desk. I had the cardstock out for a scrap page layout I was thinking about. All the paper scraps were leftovers from recent projects. I was flipping through some vintage images and found this {Toadily in Love} image…perfect! I started my design from there with my messy scraps scattered about. I should have taken a picture of my work space its embarrassingly messy. The cardboard behind the image is straight from my recycling can. The ribbon scrap should have been in the garbage being this small. It wound up being the perfect size for this. I stamped the letters on with jet black StazOn. The tiny butterfly I made with my Fiskars pop-up punch. The polk-a-dot tab is from My Minds Eye and I stapled that onto the cardboard. For the scallop window treatment, that is a piece of scalloped cardstock and I added the patterned paper and inked the edge with Versa Color, bamboo. This was adhered with 1/8 inch thick foam pop-up squares.
Products used
- Cardstock {DCWV}
- Patterned paper {My Minds Eye & Creative Imaginations}
- Toadily in Love image {Crafty Secrets, Wacky & Wonderful Vintage Images}
- Chipboard letter {K & Company}
- Ribbon {SEI}
- Stamps {Fun Expressions Old Typewriter Alphabet Set}
- Black ink {StazOn}

Valentine Mr. Potato Head & SEI {Jolie Chocolat}
Check out this adorable Valentine Mr. Potato Head we got for Nika. How cute is that? Nika thinks its pretty cool too.
Vlad and Nika gave me a bouquet of gorgeous white and pink roses. Nika was so excited to give them to me she blurted out her name! That was the first time we’ve heard her say her name, so cute…such a great day!
I went to my scrap club last night and had a nice time. Check out this months papers from SEI {Jolie Chocolat}…yummy! I love SEI and already have some great photos in mind for these.
Hope you all are having a wonderful day filled with love!

Filed under Random Goodness, Scrapbooking | Comment (0)Show & Tell - Valentine card
I’m so happy with how this Valentine came out. I’ve been trying to figure out what I was going to make for my honey. I went out to visit my adorable horse, Parker and as soon as I got home went straight to crafting. I didn’t realize my horse was so inspiring! She’s such a cutie…I’ll have to go to her for inspiration more often. Here’s my creation, it was really easy and quick to make.
I started out with an 8×8 piece of purple cardstock and folded it in half and cut along the fold. With the 2 remaining pieces I scored and folded in half {these are now your cards}. The white textured cardboard is from my recycling can. When you buy your makeup at the department store it often comes in a box inside that box is usually padded with textured cardboard…that is where this cardboard came from. Next, I took my ribbon and wrapped it around the white cardboard and used glue dots to adhere. On the back of the white cardboard use tape to seal down on the ends of ribbon. For the scallop, I used my Stampin Up scallop punch. If you don’t have a punch you could trace a pattern and cut it out by hand. I adhered the wood heart with a glue dot and added stickles to the dots on the heart. For the red trim underneath the white cardboard, I used my Fiskars {flower} border punch. I love this tool…I just got it yesterday and it’s so great. I just punched along my red cardstock and trimmed it off and glued behind the white cardboard. This card comes together super quick.
Products used:
- Wood heart {Heart Art - found these in the $1 bin @ Joanns}
- Cardstock {DCWV}
- Pink Paper {My Minds Eye}
- Ribbon {Really Reasonable Ribbon}
- Stickles {Frosted Lace}
- Adhesive {Glue Dots & Scrapbook Adhesives}
Show & Tell - 12×12 {happy} page
Thought I would finish using up some paper scraps. Here’s my {happy} layout. Check out yesterday’s post for the other layout made with the same papers.
This design came really quick. I spread out all the left over paper scraps and looked for a way to fit them together. I hid any holes with the buttons and flower embellishments. For the little butterfly on the flourish, I used the Fiskars butterfly pop-up punch. I just bought that today and already love it! On the flower embellishment I added some cardboard found in my recycling can. I like the dimension and texture it adds. On the flourishes I dabbed Antique Linen distress ink to tone down the color. I also chalked around the chipboard. The strips of journaling were done with a P-Touch label maker.
