I got an award!

June 25th, 2008

Kreativ Blogger AwardMy fabulous friend Tara sent me the Kreativ blogger award!! She is the sweetest and I’m thrilled to receive the Kreativ Blogger Award. Thank you Tara!

I’ve seen this award on some blogs and was curious about where it originated from. I found a post on Julie’s {Inspirational blog} and the originator of the Kreative Award is a very talented Danish woman named, Hulda Verden.

From what I understand I’m to pass this award on. I have to admit, I’m an avid blog reader and have a ton that I frequent and love. Here’s a few that I think are fabulous and super crafty!!

Stop by and check out all the wonderful goodness on their blogs. Have a great day! XOOXO ~ Cathy

Video Show & Tell - Ben Franklin Crafts Kids Event

June 21st, 2008

I took the girls to Ben Franklin Crafts in Redmond Washington for the kids crafting event. They had a fun time and it was definitely worth the $1 per project fee. There were 3 projects set-up throughout the store. Each project station had a demonstrator who assisted the kids. The girls made a foam door hanger, perler bead necklace, and star ornament.

Alexia and Kelsey made a video to show you the projects they made. Thanks for stopping by today! XOOXO

Show & Tell - wrapping paper made from a grocery bag

June 17th, 2008

I waited until the last minute to wrap Vlad’s father’s day present. The only wrapping paper we had was for birthdays and weddings. I came up with this quick solution and made some paper using a paper bag from the grocery store. I like how it came out.

Home made wrapping paper from grocery bag   Home made wrapping paper from grocery bag

This was so simple. Just cut a large grocery bag open and lay flat. Then stamp away onto the flattened bag. Wrap-up your present and embellish with ribbon, bows or what ever you have available. You have custom home made wrapping paper! This would be a fun project to let the kids make too.

  • Baroque Motif Stamps {Stampin Up}

Show & Tell - Alexia’s sunset painting

June 16th, 2008

My niece Alexia has been painting for a couple of years. She made me this wonderful 10 x10 canvas painting using oil paints. She titled it {Sunset}.

Alexia’s Sunset painting - oil paints on 10×10 canvas

Alexia paintingAlexia is 10 years old and hopes to be an artist when she grows up. I think she already is an artist and very talented. She has entered several kids art contests and won awards for her creations. She is working on another canvas painting for Nika’s room while she is here visiting us. I will share it with you when it’s done.

Thanks for checking out Alexia’s painting!! Have a wonderful day. XOOXO

Show & Tell - cards made by kids

June 15th, 2008

I hope everyone had a fun father’s day weekend. Today we celebrated my birthday and father’s day with the family. It’s so great to get together with everyone.

I wanted to share some cards that my nieces made for me. They have been so inspired by all the birthday cards that everyone has mailed me for my {birthday presents for you RAK}. They wanted to make some cards too. I supplied the girls with some SEI papers, deco scissors, punches, glue sticks, alphabet rub-ons, markers, pencils and let them loose. Here’s what they came up with all on their own. I’m so proud of them and thrilled that they love crafting.

These are cards made by Alexia, she is 10 years old. Alexia loves making things and also painting. She aspires to be a chef and artist when she grows up!

The following cards are made by Kelsey, she is 7 years old. I can’t keep Kelsey out of my craft room. She wants to make cards when she grows up for a living, she says!! She is new to crafting and these are her very 1st cards that she has made.

I’m so proud of my nieces and love having these little artists to craft with me. I’ve got these future scrappers of the world with me a couple more weeks. I’ll be sharing more of our projects with you. XOOXO ~ Cathy, Alexia & Kelsey

Friday Freebie - 2 minute paper wallet

June 13th, 2008

Hello and sorry for the delay with today’s freebie. I’ve been busy with my nieces who are here visiting. We’ve been doing touristy things and also making some scrappy projects!!

I didn’t get much of a chance to do freebie hunting, but found this fun project. If you are looking for a last minute daddy’s day gift this would be really cool to make with cardstock. Add some faux stitching and pics in the pockets. Viola, cute personal present!! Check out the tutorial on how to make a paper wallet in 2 minutes, by silentbaird.

Have a wonderful weekend ~ XOOXO

Show & Tell - a couple of ATCs

June 11th, 2008

I owe my friend Don a couple of ATCs and made these just for him. I had fun making these and tried a new technique that was inspired from the Artist Trading Card Workshop.

A Frog Funny ATC Dragon of Honor ATC

Both the ATCs are made on corrugated cardboard. For the dragon ATC I painted one side with gold metallic paint. Next I stamped a piece of repurposed white tissue paper with a Asian block stamp. While the paint was still wet I laid the tissue paper down and pressed in a few areas so the gold would show through. Once it dried I applied mod podge over the top. I really love how this tissue paper turned out. The tissue paper feels like rice paper!! I was going for the Asian-newspaper look for the background. On the back side of the ATC, I sporadically painted mod podge and applied another piece of tissue paper with some ink splattered on it. I pressed down some of the areas and then tore off the paper that didn’t have any glue.

Don has a fun sense of humor. For the frog ATC I chose an image that I thought would make him laugh. The background is corrugated cardboard with chalk ink rubbed on it. On the back I used another idea from this book. I tore out a page from a phone book and used mod podge to adhere it. I really like the idea of using phone book pages on projects and will be playing around with those more.

Here’s the back of the ATCs
