Ribbon ring review & RAK

May 15th, 2008

I’ve been looking for the ideal way to store my ribbon and have finally found a solution that works!! Here’s my review of the Ribbon Ring.

What I’ve done in the past
I’ve tried the cute approach of using wood bobbins and storing the ribbon in jars. This was not practical, nor could I see all the ribbons easily. And it was just a pain to get in and out of the jars. It looks pretty. This option seems best if you don’t really want to use your ribbon. I also tried the Pull-ez. I didn’t buy one, rather I opted for trying to make one myself. I didn’t like having to smash all the ribbons down to add more and sometimes they came out of the holes. The whole thing was really messy. I even tried wrapping the ribbon around cards, but the ribbon would get wrinkled and I then would have to iron it.

Ribbon Ring to the rescue
MamaSheg’s Ribbon RingSimple, practical, and pretty. You hang your ribbon on little plastic {pull-through} tags and put the tags on a metal ring! I purchased the 60 ribbon tag bundle and 3″ metal rings from Ribbon Ring and absolutely love it!! This was more than plenty to clean up my mess of ribbon. I was able to thread small scraps and really long pieces of ribbon, up to 5 yards on a tag. They recommend you cut your ribbon into 1 yard lengths and use the inventory dots as an indicator that you have more of the ribbon. But I didn’t use the inventory dots as the tags hold a lot and you can put more than one piece of ribbon on a tag. I love how the ribbons look just hanging there, a nice rainbow of inspiration. I can easily grab all my ribbons and thumb through looking for what I need. The pull-through tags are high-quality and the plastic is flexible yet sturdy. Good stuff!

How I use it
MamaSheg’s Ribbon RingI sorted and hung my ribbon by color. For each color group I used a 1″ ring. After I had all my ribbon sorted I put all of the 1″ rings onto the big 3″ ring. Having everything sorted by color makes it so quick to just grab the particular color{s} I need. I can lay the ribbons onto my project looking for the ones that look best without having to take them off the tags. It’s so efficient and organized, I love it!! The ribbon also doesn’t get bent and wrinkly. It’s also very portable, I can easily toss a couple rings into my crop bag and the ribbons stay in place on the tags.

I love it!!
I highly recommend the Ribbon Ring. Simple, practical, pretty, and affordable! The starter set is just under $10. To clean up my mess was only $20 and I still have a bunch of tags left for when I buy more ribbon. And now that I’m organized, I see that I’m lacking in the area of green ribbon, LOL.

*** Win a Ribbon Ring starter set ***
Guess what….I have a brand new Ribbon Ring Starter Set to give-away! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post to be entered. The winner will receive one 2″ metal ring, 30 ribbon tags and 15 inventory dots!! I’ll draw a winner next Wednesday, May 21st. Please only one comment per person, open to US & Canadian shipping addresses.

  2. Amy G. Fiskateer #1803 on May 15, 2008 3:36 am

WOW! That looks really great, I just may have to go for it. I love the way the colors look and how easy it is. I use the glass jars for my ribbons, and I made a desk caddy for my little ribbon spools. This would definitely be a better option. Thanks for the review! :o)

Finally….a ribbon solution that makes sense! :) I’ve been trying forever to figure out a system that would work for me and have spent lots of time and money on a solution. The end result? All of my ribbon is thrown into a plastic container…not exactly organized! This product sounds fantastic! Thanks for the great review and the RAK! :)

YEAH!!! I’m so glad that you have tried this system. I’ve seen them advertised but I didn’t know anybody that actually has bought one so I was afraid of it not working properly. If I don’t win now I have no fears in going out and purchasing a set for me. Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review about it and for the opportunity to win.

I need to organize my ribbon - it’s in shopping bags on a shelf right now! I thought about that ribbon organizer that looks like a cosmetic bag with holes in it, but after seeing your post, I like this one much better. It looks easier to set up, and I like what you said about being able to lay out the ribbon on your project. Thanks for the review. Karen 3441

Hello! This is way too cool. I’ve seen it in magazines, but haven’t looked at how it really works… What a totally cool idea. I can’t believe someone hasn’t come up with this before now.

I’ve got all my ribbons just stuffed into photo boxes, no organization at all.

You are tooooo sweet to offer this as a RAK. THANK YOU for giving us this opportunity to win a starter kit!!!

I think you found a wonderful way to sort the ribbon & yet you also found a wonderful way to add beauty to the scrap room! I’m always amazed at how much we learn from each other & if I don’t win I will be looking to find a place to buy the ring system. Thanks for sharing!!!

What a great idea! My crafting area is limited on space so this would be perfect to put my ribbon on and not use up what work space I have. This would really be an answer to a problem for me. Thanks for the great review and the rak.

I was just looking at these the other day! I saw an ad for them in Paper Crafts and they caught my eye. I’m going to give them a try. I’ve been looking for the perfect idea for my ribbon storage :)

  24. Linda F. on May 15, 2008 7:01 am

I use these and love them! My space is so small and these get my ribbon up on the wall where I can see it. If I see it, I use it! Of course I have so much ribbon, I could use a hundred more!

  27. Rhonda on May 15, 2008 7:30 am

This is a wonderful and pretty solution! It doesn’t take up much space and I like that you can just grab the colors you may want to take with you to a crop. I was afraid to try the ribbon bag, for fear that the ribbon would get tangled and you couldn’t easily see when you were getting low on a piece. Thanks for this great review and the RAK offer.

This is so cool! I have several of those ribbon boxes and carriers, but the ribbons get all mixed up together and you can’t carry all of them easily etc. Thanks for showing all of your pictures with them. I also LOVE how you can see the surplus/lack of colors you have!

  50. Veronica on May 15, 2008 11:34 pm

Love it! I still have mine wrapped around cards I made and you’re right, you can’t really see what you’ve got, despite putting them in a clear paint can. Handy idea and it goes well with my little embellishment bags on a ring. :)

Ooh, how pretty! Looks like a great solution for longer ribbons, and I think I need to get one! For shorter ones, though, I like the tote bags with the holes that you can pull the ribbons out through. I was about to buy one this morning but then found a site with instructions on how to make your own!
