Wonderful children’s theatre - Tim Noah’s Thumbnail Theater

February 24th, 2008

I took Nika to her very first theater performance a few days ago. We went to the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater located in Snohomish Washington. What a fabulous place this is for kids.

Cyndi Soup - Tim Noah Thumbnail TheaterLittle Nika was mesmerized by the performance. She bounced up and down on my lap as the performers sang and danced. The kids in the audience were invited to participate on stage as well as encouraged to sing along and dance. The puppets in the show were funny and the stories and songs were catchy and spirited. I love how interactive the performers were with the audience. It’s a very intimate theater experience. After the show the performers and puppets came out to the lobby to meet all the guests. This was a really fun and exciting place to go with Nika. Kids of all ages will enjoy these shows…we’ll definitely be coming here again.

Indoor playgrounds for kids 5 & under

January 30th, 2008

Nika Indoor Playground 1/30/08I’ve been looking into indoor activities and new places to take Nika. Today we visited our first indoor playground for kids. We went to the Old Redmond Schoolhouse, which is now the Community Center. Nika had so much fun! Her face lit up with excitement when we walked into the gym. It was toys galore and kids were bouncing around like it was Christmas. The gym also had balls, tumbling mats, crawl-through tunnels and push cars to play with. The cost is only $2 or free for kids under 1 year.

Nika Indoor Playground 1/30/08 Pic 2I did a little research and most cities have an indoor playground program, usually through the local Community Center. Here’s a great article in The Seattle Times that lists a bunch of indoor playgrounds and also movie cry rooms {special movie showings just for parents with babies}. The article is a little old, but will give you good information about many of the different indoor playgrounds in Western Washington. You can also go to Meetup.com and do a search for playgroups by zip code.

Look at my happy girl! She was grinning from ear to ear the whole time we were there.

December 19th, 2007

I have to give a shout-out to my friend Serenity and RAG Men’s Style. Serenity is my stylist {for those of you who are always asking who does my hair} and she is also the co-owner of RAG Men’s Style in Bellevue, Washington. They opened in August of this year and also just launched their website which was designed by my honey, Vlad.

Rag Men’s StyleRAG Men’s Style is an exclusive men’s store that caters to the the guys who want to wear unique, sophisticated and elegant clothing. They carry all the swanky designers such as Duncan Quinn, est. 1887, Jeffrey West Shoes, J. Lindeberg, Stitch’s, and True Religion. And I have to tell you…they have the coolest umbrellas for men I’ve ever seen!

It’s worth a visit, Evening Magazine viewers voted RAG Men’s Style the “Hippest Boutique” in Western Washington for 2007. Check out the site and stop by the store!

A few fun places to take the kids or kids at heart

December 4th, 2007

Cougar Mountain Zoo - This place is perfect for the little ones. The zoo is just the right size and has a great selection of animals and exhibits. The current big attraction is their annual Issaquah Reindeer Festival. They are open daily from 10-4:30 and the fun Christmas activities are going on until December 23rd.

Theo’s Chocolate Factory Tour - Who knew Seattle had a chocolate factory that gave tours? I sure didn’t, but I do plan on checking it out. Theo’s offers tours daily at 1 and 3pm and an additional tour on Saturday and Sunday at 11am.

{UPDATE 12/12/07} Note from Theo’s Chocolate: “Our tours are booked to capacity this time of year so please call ahead to reserve a time and date that will best fit your schedule (206)632-5100.”

Country Village - I loved going to this place when I was a kid. Located in Bothell, Country Village is a great place for strolling around. The village has more than 40 quaint gift shops and restaurants. One of the fun aspects of Country Village is the variety of animals roaming around. You’ll see lots of chickens, ducks, bunnies, and probably a peacock or two. There’s also a 1/2 mile train ride for kids and adults!

Holiday activities around western Washington

November 28th, 2007

I found this great article in the Seattle Times listing holiday activities around the area. The list is very complete with a ton of great places to check out. Nika and I have already been to Redmond Town Center’s Santa House! It’s a super cute little house and the Santa was very authentic looking. It gets really busy so go early on a weekday if you can. The Festival of Poinsettias at Molbak’s in Woodinville is also a great place to check out. I love all the festive displays there, great place to get inspired for the holidays.

Happy Halloween

October 31st, 2007

This is Nika’s very 1st Halloween. We dressed her up as a blue octopus, so cute! Yesterday we took her to Expedia for the Halloween festivities. We got to see some friends and visit briefly. Miss Nika didn’t last too long so it was a quick trip.

Nika_Mommy_Halloween2007Tonight we went to Redmond Town Center for trick or treating. Grandma came with us too. Nika did great! We strolled around collecting treats (for me). Nika had a blast checking out all the kiddies running around in their costumes. Redmond Town Center was a great place to go. Some of the stores passed out coupons (in addition to treats for the kids) for the parents to use at a later date.

Here’s some coupons up for grabs. Email me if you want one and I can email you the coupon code or drop it in the mail to you.

Hiking at Redmond Watershed

October 29th, 2007

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We did a little hiking with Miss Nika yesterday. We took her out in her new Kelty backpack (the Kelty is a great step-up from the bjorn once they outgrow it).

Daddy_Nika_KeltyWe went to the Redmond Watershed. It’s a great place for kids. There are several trails to explore of varying length. All the trails have super easy terrain. The frog loop trail is the easiest with a paved trail (perfect for strollers). Some of the trails have informational markers about the trees, plants, and wildlife.

Strange but true

Check out the 2 headed turtle!

Why do I have a video about a 2 headed turtle?
Our friends came over for dinner last weekend. Their kids were admiring our pet turtles (we have 2 pet turtles and “no” they do not have 2 heads). We got to talking about reptiles. There is a really cool reptile place not too far from where we live and they have a real 2 headed turtle on display. It’s odd, creepy…yet cool. They didn’t believe us that there was such a thing so we looked it up online and found this video. So here’s the proof, 2 headed turtles do exist! I thought the rest of you might be interested too.

If you live in the Seattle area go check out the Reptile Zoo in Monroe. It’s well worth the drive and only costs $4 per person. There are a ton of cool reptiles to check out besides the 2 headed turtle. It’s a fun and educational place to take the kids or just the kids at heart. Our first visit was just Vlad and me. It was a very unique and excellent date!
