Show & Tell - a couple of b-day cards

June 10th, 2008

I’ve had a great response to my birthday presents for you RAK and looking forward to getting everyone’s cards. A few of the people participating also have June birthdays and I wanted to make some cards to send them. One of them even has the exact same birthday as me!! Such a small world, it’s so fun to exchange cards and meet other crafters.

Here’s a couple of the cards I put together this afternoon. All the products are SEI, except the flowers are Prima and the brad is Kimberly Polson.

Show & Tell - Boho backgrounds shabby chic card

June 5th, 2008

Here’s the card I came up with for the shoe box project swap I’m participating in tonight.

Boho Background Shabby Chic Card by MamaSheg

Yesterday I did a post showing you my altered shoe box. As promised here’s aShoe box swap look inside the box. Everything to create this card {see list below} are in this shoe box. I also pre-cut all the papers and ribbons needed for this project. There’s a total of nine bags, one for each of the attendees. Each baggie holds the paper, ribbon, string and mesh. Also inside the box are the supplies: stamps, inks, punches, blender pen and sand paper.

I’m looking forward to the shoe box swap tonight and will share more with you later. If you have the boho background stamps and want my how-to for this card I’m happy to share it with you. If you want to order the stamps or supplies for this, feel free to email me. Anyone who orders the Boho Background stamps from me will get the Spring/Summer 2008 catalog for free {$10 value}!

Show & Tell - Altered shoe box

June 4th, 2008

I was rather excited to hear about a shoe box swap I would be participating in. This sounded like a good opportunity to alter a shoe box! For those of you curious…a shoe box swap is where you create a card or paper crafting project and include all the supplies needed to create the item and put all the supplies in a shoe box. A group of people will get together, share their shoe boxes and create a bunch of cards and projects. It’s a a lot of fun.

Here’s my decorated shoe box. I like how it came out. I might have to make some of these for my closet! I’ll share the project inside this box with you tomorrow. Have a fabulous day! XOOXO

Show & Tell - Altered chipboard tags

May 29th, 2008

Here’s some altered chipboard tags I made for a couple of my Fisk-A-Teer friends. These were fun and quick to make. These were very similar to making the ATCs.

The blue bird tag is from the VersaMark tags I made the other day. I had a little more fun playing around with those and sprayed Glimmer Mist on them and they look really cool. It’s hard to see in the photo, the Glimmer Mist added a nice sparkly sheen. I also sprayed the top flowers on both tags with Glimmer Mist too.

Show & Tell - Girls of the world mini board book

May 22nd, 2008

I made this mini {Girls of the World} board book for my 3 year old niece. I intentionally left this as a picture book so she can make up her own stories. I like how it came out and it was a ton of fun to make.

Girls of the World mini board book I didn’t do any prep to the board book and used my Xyron for adhesive. I’ve done several board books before with different types of adhesive and find that the Xyron works best for me when adhering paper to the chipboard. I also used the Xyron 150 to adhere the girl images onto the paper. Next I painted the edges of the pages with metallic gold paint. I remember when I was little having books with gold pages and thought that would be fun for this book too. I finished off the book by applying modge podge to the pages and black book binding tape to the seam.

Show & Tell - Hattie’s Butterfly ATC

May 22nd, 2008

Here’s the ATC I made for my friend Lisa. This is my first attempt at making an ATC and was really happy with how it came out. I love how quick and easy these come together. You can see the envelope I made to go with this here.

I sprayed the image with pearl Glimmer Mist to give it that sparkly sheen you sometimes see on vintage cards and such. Other than the image everything I used was scraps and extras I had in my stash.

I want to make some more ATCs!! Email me if you want to do a swap. XOOXO

Show & Tell - Altered baby wipes box

May 20th, 2008

I made this altered baby wipes box to hold my daughter’s hair clips. I had been keeping the clips in here and it has been a good storage box so I decided to try and make it a bit more pretty.

Altered Baby Wipes Box

This was an easy project. I used a ruler to measure the areas of the box that I wanted to cover with paper. Then cut out the paper and sprayed it with pearl Glimmer Mist for a little sparkle. Next I ran the papers through the Xyron for adhesive. The brown ribbon was adhered with wet glue.  The blue ribbon was just wrapped around and then tied a knot in the back. The pink flowers were put on with glue dots.

Altered Baby Wipes BoxFor the clear flower layered on top the pink one, I made this using my Sizzix Bigshot. I ran some acetate {it really was old transparency film, the kind you get at the office supply store for making overheads} through my Sizzix and then used black StazOn to stamp a French script stamp on the die cut flower. I like how it came out. I’ll be using more of these transparent flowers on future projects.

Show & Tell - Altered soup can

May 12th, 2008

Altered Soup Can

I made this altered soup can and it didn’t turn out very well. I think I’ll name this my spastic-mess altered soup can! It started out really cute and when I put modge podge over it everything got all messy and junked up. The base paper got all gooey and my fingers stuck to parts of it, and then there were torn paper patches from where my fingers were stuck. I was about to toss it and instead went and whined about it to my honey. I hand cut all the flowers and was feeling really bummed that I ruined it. Later this afternoon I decided to try and fix it. I made some of my sea-urchin funky flowers to hide the torn paper patches and also glued on some more stuff.

I can’t decide if it’s just ugly, strangely inspiring, or just waiting to be tossed. I’ll think I will let it hangout for a bit, see if it grows on me…or maybe grows something. I’d love to hear your thoughts. I made a poll so you can share your opinion. The poll doesn’t work in the blog readers, please click here if you want to add your vote.

Spastic-Mess Altered Soup Can Art of Junk??
Strangely creative, keep it!
Yikes! Not a keeper
I can’t decide, it confuses me.

Don’t worry, I have no way of knowing who votes. Be honest, I can take it. XOOXO

Show & Tell - Alki Beach layout

May 7th, 2008

I just finished this page for the local scrap-a-latte club. This is my favorite layout I’ve done so far…funky flowers, bling and my two favorite people. I’m really liking the look of silhouettes right now and love how this photo looks with the filter effect. I played around with photo filters using Color Efex Pro.

MamaSheg Alki Beach Scrapbook LayoutI love how the funky sea urchin-like flowers {not sure what to call them} came out. I used some of my repurposed coke can and coffee sleeve die cut pieces to create them. You can see my previous posts on creating these here and here. To make these funky embellishments I used a die cut flower and curled up the edges with a bamboo skewer. Once I had the sea urchin-look, I cut up a sticker to make the circle center and adhered with a foam dot. The large black flower has a piece of used sandpaper layered in there, punched with a scallop hand punch. The smallest flower has a coffee sleeve die cut circle underneath. It was fun playing around with different things to make these little creations. I like how different they look and also the dimension they add to the page.

Show & Tell - Matryoshka embellishment

April 27th, 2008

Matryoshka EmbellishmentI made this little cutie matryoshka {Russian nesting doll} embellishment today. I’m going to use it for a mini album I’m working on.

I stamped my image on the inside of a security envelope. These are just regular envelopes you get at the office supply store or Costco. The envelope has a great pattern on the inside so I just flattened out the envelope and stamped my image. I cut out the center part of the image and put a scrap piece of patterned paper behind it. Next I stamped the same image onto white cardstock and cut out the face and flowers for the center. I used colored pencils to add a little color to the face. Then I cut out the hair from brown cardstock. For detail I used a white gel pen to dot around the center of the body and outlined the necktie. Stickles were then added to the flowers in the center and also on the necktie. The flowers in the center are raised with a foam pop-up.
