Show & Tell - Easter layout

April 9th, 2008

Here’s the layout I did for the Crop-A-Latte club that I attend. Both the flowers and ladybug embellishments were made with coffee sleeves. You can see my previous post on using coffee sleeves here. If you are curious about what Nika is wearing, it’s her Easter basket! She thought it was really fun to wear on her head.

Nika’s party favors & Cream City Ribbon

April 4th, 2008

Nika’s party favorsI’ve been busy putting together the favors for Nika’s 1st birthday party. The pails have bubbles, sticker sheets, bouncy balls & crayons. A couple of the guests are under 6 months and those pails have peek-a-boo blocks in them. I used my Sizzix to make Nika’s party favors the tags and also tried out the coolest ribbon on the tags. I’ve had this ribbon from Cream City Ribbon for a while and the colors were perfect to match the Elmo theme for the party.

Nika’s party favors Cream City Ribbon is unlike any ribbon I’ve ever used. It’s very versatile and unique. It’s an all-natural product composed of cotton and water soluble adhesive. The texture is crisp, and feels like a Nika’s party favorspaper-thin wood chip. The ribbon is springy and holds its shape beautifully. Nika’s party favorsI used the rainbow colored ribbon and was able to shred/tear it and then curled it by wrapping it around a bamboo skewer. You can also stamp on it. Really fun stuff to play with. Lots of possibilities for crafting with this.

Starbucks keeps me scrappy

April 3rd, 2008

Starbucks coffee sleeve die cuts with Sizzix Big ShotI have to confess that I live in Seattle and {NOT} a coffee drinker, crazy I know! But, my honey is an avid coffee drinker. He has collected a small stash of coffee sleeves for me to play with. Since Starbucks coffee sleeve die cuts with Sizzix Big ShotI’m on a recycling/Sizzix exploration this week…the coffee sleeves have successfully made their way through the Big Shot. I really love this texture. I can see myself using the coffee sleeves to die cut a lot. Take a look at how these turned out.

Have a coke and a smile!

April 2nd, 2008

Coke can Sizzix die cut scrapbooking embellishmentsHave a coke and a smile…does that totally date me or what?? Alright have a coke and make some really cool scrappy die cuts. Yep, that’s right I ran a coke can through my Sizzix Big Shot and Coke can Sizzix die cut scrapbooking embellishments {LOVE} how these embellishments came out. The pop can went through beautifully just like paper. You get two options for using these funky embellishments, one side has the cool design from the pop can and the other side has a great metal look.

I rinsed the can out with water and used a regular pair of scissors to cut off the top and bottom of the can. I recommend using a pair of scissors that you don’t use for your paper. Cutting the can is probably going to sharpen the blade of your scissors too, a nice added bonus to this technique. After the top and bottom are cut off I used a paper towel to dry out the inside and then flattened it out. I sandwiched the flattened can just as I would paper and ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot.

I’m wondering if the can is sharpening the die when it cuts? I’m guessing it is. I know tin foil will sharpen scissors when you cut it and also sharpens punches when you punch foil. Seems logical that a pop can would sharpen a die. Anyhow, I’m having fun playing around with my Sizzix Big Shot this week and discovering fun ways to recycle things. Hope you are having a wonderful day! XOOXO

Be sure to check out yesterday’s post for more ideas on using the Sizzix Big Shot.

New scrappy discovery

March 31st, 2008

Credit card Sizzix Die cutsI made a new scrappy discovery last night. Look what I made with my Sizzix Big Shot! Guess what I used to make these?? You know all those annoying credit cards offers you get in the mail, I used the plastic fake credit cards. I ran them through my Sizzix and they cut out Credit card Sizzix Die cutsperfectly. I just sandwiched the credit card in the machine like I would paper and viola I got a nice little plastic embellishment that looks a little funky and fun. It also worked on used gift cards too. I like different textures on my projects and excited about this new discovery, and its good recycling…gotta love that!
