Show & Tell - happy birthday card

January 14th, 2008

Today is my honey’s birthday…Happy Birthday Vlad! Here’s the card I put together for him. I really like how it turned out.

Happy Birthday Card Birthday Card Inside

I used 8×8 cardstock and folded in half. I created all the letters with the Sizzix Big Shot {fruit smoothie} die. A flattened Cheerios cereal box worked great for the letter backing. I used a small flat bristle paintbrush to apply the glue for the letters. To make sure the letters were aligned properly I kept a ruler positioned to where I wanted them and just lined the letters up against it. For the orange circle I punched this with the Fiskars {large} squeeze punch. The Fiskars squeeze punches are the best! The white mesh I purchased at Home Depot in the drywall section, you can get 150 feet for under $3. This is the same type of mesh that was on QVC recently. You can get white and yellow at the local hardware store. The mesh is self-adhesive and so easy to work with. I really like working with this and it adds such a cool look to your projects. The ribbon stuck right to it.

Products used

  • Cardstock {DCWV}
  • Brown circle & small flower inside card {Gin-X}
  • Ribbon {SEI}
  • Patterned paper {My Minds Eye}
  • Mesh {FibaTape}
  • Glue {Ultimate!}

Show & Tell - coffee sleeve mini album

January 10th, 2008

Here’s a little mini album I made documenting Nika’s 1st snow. I made this out of a Starbucks coffee sleeve and it was super easy and quick to do.

Coffee Sleeve Album 1Coffee Sleeve Album 3
Coffee Sleeve Album 2
Coffee Sleeve Album 4

The album has a total of 8 pages. I used a Starbuck’s holiday coffee sleeve and embellished with a free download from Canon’s Creative Park. Additional embellishments are the wood snowman on the cover, ribbon, stickers, and Autumn Leaves stamps. I also added stickles to the paper embellishments and some gemstones to make them look a bit prettier. The blue polk-a-dot paper is from My Minds Eye.

This was so easy and fun to make. Check out my previous post on Starbuck’s mini albums. There is a video tutorial on how to make these coffee sleeve albums.

What to do with old gaming systems

January 3rd, 2008

Here’s something to consider next time you upgrade your gaming system or if you are looking to help out the community…

Check out The Friends of Youth organization they have an office in Redmond. The Friends of Youth provide an array of services for young people and their families in the areas of prevention, shelter care and housing, and treatment across King & Snohomish Counties in Washington State. Here in Bellevue they have a shelter for homeless youth. I didn’t realize homeless youth was even a problem in our area.

Today Nika and I met with Jason at the organization and dropped off an Xbox game console and over a dozen games for the kids. Next time you upgrade your gaming system please consider donating to this charity. They are always looking for entertainment items such as video games, books, movies {DVD & VHS}. They are also in need of adolescent clothing {new & gently used}, toiletries and suitcases or luggage.

I know there are a bunch of you out there with stuff like this to donate. This is all tax deductible too. I really like the idea of helping a charity right here in our hometown. If you are interested in donating please call Jason 425.869.6490. They also have a fund raising event coming up in March, Antwone Fisher is the guest speaker.

The coolest robot

January 3rd, 2008

Pleo Dinosaur RobotHave you seen the Pleo dinosaur robot? This is so cool. Not to mention super cute and highly sophisticated. The pleo explores and reacts to its environment and expresses emotion!

The price is steep, but I sure want one. I got my 1st programmable robot when I was 9 years old and always had a fascination with them. You really have to check out the video to see how cool this is. With nearly 40 devices that enable sight, touch and movement–this is truly amazing for a consumer toy.
